If a Dutch thinks about fishes he will be thinking over herring. There are a lot of dutch people go to buy a piece of herring every week. Just let a nice cleaned herring melt in your mouth. It becomes clearer that fish is presentable healthy because of the specific vat, therefore herring-eating is not be out of the time effected. On the contrary, it seems that fish is obliged to be on the menu for a healthy person! Because the dispatch of a herring is a very special way: hold the herring by its tail, with some raw onion on the back of the herring, then tilt back your head and let the fish slowly slide down your throat. The tail you can just threw away. Foreigners cannot be understand totally that such herring is completely raw. There are little production we can just raw eat. That is true, the fish is indeed raw. Previously, the herring could not be able to be frozen, so it was salted. Especially if the fish had to be kept longer – for transport to other countries -- salt was more applied. Therefore how far it should be going how salty the herring were eaten. In order to mask the taste the cut onions were added with the fish. Nowadays, that’s unnecessary but there are still many dutch people prefer only herring with onions. |
