Dutch settled in the 17th century, the world's first Fair. They also founded one of the first multinationals: The East India Company! A extreme streamlined company of magnitude that a small group of Dutch (and foreign) gentlemen with heavy-handed, coordinated. While the rich Holland went through the first stock market crash in history, the VOC had experienced much success: everywhere in the known world of that time they had trading posts. Also in China. Although that post was on an island off the coast and the Westerners were not actually allowed on the mainland. But still ... The Dutch looked admiringly at the beautiful painted porcelain work and tried to make it: till one day is the painted ceramic Delft Blue ( from the Delft, a city) extremely popular with tourists. Even the famous bunny Miffy (see elsewhere on this site) is immortalized in Delft blue!
